Galleries from outside | Primož Bizjak: Artist’s talk |
Civic Gallery, Piran | Saturday, 19.03.2022, at 11.30 am

Last year’s GALLERIES FROM OUTSIDE initiative will continue this spring. This year, when the galleries are finally open, we upgraded the project with a live program in the form of “artist’s talks", meetings and discussions on the topic of visual art in the coastal region of Slovenia and the role and mission of contemporary art institutions in the 21st century. We will invite Slovenian and international guests who stand out with their artistic, research and pedagogical achievements in various spheres of visual art. The guest of the first meeting, which will take place on Saturday, 19 March 2022 at 11.30 AM, at the Piran City Gallery, will be PRIMOŽ BIZJAK, an established photographer from the coastal region of Slovenia.
Primož Bizjak began to present himself in the world of art with painting, but he soon became interested in photography. His photographs explore the history of places, borders and symbolic landmarks. His main interest is nocturnal photography and colors hidden in the night. With long-exposures lasting several hours or even all night, he manages to create nocturnal images as if in daylight. He gradually captures colors with analog, never digital means to surprise us with what our eyes do not see in the dark. The painterly basis of his photography combined with a particular use of time, linked to the long-exposure, is a trademark of his work, which seems to have stopped at an unclear and obscure time. The angle of the shot is fundamental and to achieve the right one he will defy heights and no-entry signs, exposing himself to risks. The poetic colours of his photographs clash with the content of military or industrial sites, confronting face to face poetry and reality.
Primož Bizjak (1976, Šempeter near Nova Gorica) began his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice in 1999 and graduated in painting under Professor Luigi Viola in 2005. He has presented his work in solo and group exhibitions in Slovenia and abroad, especially in Spain, Croatia and Italy, where he took part in the 54th Venice Biennale (2011). In 2020/2021, the state of Bavaria awarded him a scholarship and a residence in Villa Concordia in Bamberg. He lives and works in Madrid, Spain. Primož Bizjak is represented by the international gallery Gregor Podnar in Berlin.
