PEDAGOGICAL AND ANDRAGOGICAL PROGRAMMES AT THE PUBLIC INSTITUTE OF THE PIRAN COASTAL GALLERIES 2024

The Piran Coastal Galleries represent the centre of cultural events. We put focus on the production, promotion and exploration of contemporary fine art, which also takes place through a rich and diverse programme of pedagogical and andragogical activities.

The pedagogical programme for children and youth at the Piran Coastal Galleries is based on contents that strengthen the understanding of contemporary fine art at various levels. It is adapted to selected target groups, such as children, families, primary school children, pupils, students, vulnerable groups, and is carried out in cooperation with experts in the field of art pedagogy, employees of local educational institutions and artists.

This year we are introducing the ArtLab Meduza project, which will take place from April onwards between the Piran Civic Gallery of Piran and the Herman Pečarič Gallery. With creative pedagogical workshops in the creative corner at the Herman Pečarič Gallery and through art exhibitions, children will get acquainted with various painting techniques, recycling of paper, making of collages, and drawing postcards. The aim is to stimulate imagination, raise awareness of the importance of recycling and develop creativity and sense of aesthetics. The pedagogical workshops will be led by experienced artists and professional staff, such as Vasko Vidmar, Veruš Villangó, Francesco Zardini, Ištvan Išt Huzjan and Gani Llalloshi.

At the Piran Coastal Galleries, we are also developing a rich andragogical programme for all target audiences, which is largely formed within annual exhibition projects, temporary exhibitions and two permanent collections, the Forma viva Portorož Stone Sculpture Park and a selection from the painting legacy of Herman Pečarič. Adults and senior citizens will be able to take guided tours, adult education workshops and talk sessions with artists, where they will explore different artistic approaches, learn about creative techniques and learn about diverse art directions and movements. The aim of andragogical activities is to expand knowledge about art and to encourage critical thinking.

A walk among the sculptures in the city centre of Piran, which is being created in cooperation with Natalija Planinc, who designed the programme in accordance with the needs of the local environment, will be intended for getting to know sculptural works in the city, where participants will discover the history of sculpture, restoration techniques and sculptors as a way of active education and participation in discussions and workshops. Guided tours will be organized with Natalija Planinc and curator Dr. Majda Božeglav Japelj and curator-pedagogue Ana Papež.

ArtLab Meduza on the ground floor of the Herman Pečarič Gallery
May – August 2024

In the Piran Coastal Galleries,  an idea about the character of the muse called Meduza has been brewing, for some time now. It is the mascot of pedagogical PCG workshops aimed at young artists. Thus, an interactive game for young people A Walk With the Muza Meduza through the collections of the Piran Coastal Galleries was conceived. In Greek mythology, Medusa was one of three gorgon sisters, a terrible monster with snakes instead of hair. Whoever looked her in the eye was petrified on the spot. Medusa’s head is also a recognizable symbol of the Piran Coastal Galleries.

This time, the pedagogical programme is being upgraded with the project ArtLab Meduza, which will take place on the ground floor of the Herman Pečarič Gallery in Piran in the coming months. We will adapt the space of the gallery into a real creative laboratory to house  new content. Pedagogical creative workshops will be organized in cooperation with visual artists working in our local environment.

May – June 2024

When preparing adult education workshops, we focus on the needs of the local environment. We live in a city adorned with sculptures by established artists, but often the locals themselves do not know who the authors of individual sculptures are. The two-hour meetings will take place in 4 sets, on Thursday afternoons

Visitors will pursue two goals:

  • educational goal– learning about restoration techniques, the development of sculpture in the 2nd half of the 20th century, the history of the sculpture symposium Forma viva Portorose, the role of placing sculptural works in public space
  • action goal– active participation of participants in discussions and workshops.
