IZIS # 7 – Invasion

IZIS has the goal of inserting Medieval Art in Slovenian Istria program.

The group of artis and producers that created the Festival merged a collaboration with Piran Coastal Galleries, occupying its exhibition space Monfort Gallery with artworks produced by PiNA, from Koper, who’s authors are also members of the same group of Slovenian artist that work with new media.

Invasion, at first associated to enemies invasions, is based upon recent facts, with which IZIS confronts itself.

IZIS will invade Monfort on its highest turistic season, a moment of notorious and more than welcom invasion from tourists themsleves. In a place where the bet is mainly on the splendour of its sea, it is shown that the proximity to its invasors is not casual.

Perhaps the answer to the frightening slogan of threat, of invasions and its consequences – from the most volatile forms of capital, to the emergence of the most rudimentary walls – is invasion itself. The invasion as a barrier, which should accept an unstoppable intrusion, which in the face of the modern bustle typical of our time should reconsider the perception of the whole. The question is: what is ours? What is attacked and what is defended? What is the limit of thought and perception that gives rise to this feeling? And can art, in its own way, respond to real and imagined threats? Or at least bring forth the realization that our confusion is no less than that evoked by the ending of Constantine Cavafy’s poem Waiting for the barbarians, which ends thus:

“Now what will happen to us without the barbarians?
Those people were a solution."

One solution for IZIS is invasion.
