57th International Painting EX-TEMPORE PIRAN

57th International Painting Ex-Tempore | 27 August‒30 November 2022

Ex-tempore Piran is one of the most important art events in Slovenian Istria, recognizable for its competitive character and long tradition. It is attended by academically formed artists, young artists and lovers of painting alike, who come from Slovenia and various other, especially neighboring, countries.

The Piran Coastal Galleries would like this year’s edition to be marked by the participation of young people. There is also a special Young Author Prize award in the form of a personal exhibition at the Herman Pečarič Gallery in Piran.

An international expert jury consisting of Riccardo Caldura, director of the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice (Italy), Vadim Fiškin, artist, scientist, guest professor at Kunstuniversität Linz (2006-2007) and professor at Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design from 2012 to 2018 (Slovenia), and Jerica Ziherl, art historian and director/curator at the Lapidarium Museum in Novigrad (Croatia) will select paintings for the exhibition at the Piran City Gallery and the Monfort Gallery in Portorož, and award other alluring prizes, including a series of redemption awards and the highest prize of Ex-tempore, the grand prix.

The award ceremony at the end of the cultural program will take place on Saturday, September 3, 2022, at 8.30 pm on Tartini Square in Piran.

Entry fee: 25 €;

Discounts: students (up to 26 years of age) and pensioners with a valid document of identification: 15 €;

* The entry fee is paid at the time of submission of the painting.

2. Themes: Piran, Tartini, love, sea, harbour, coastal town, saltpans, Istrian landscape, free theme.

3. Each participant may have a maximum of two foundations stamped. Only one work may be submitted. We do not accept graphics and prints.

4. Prescribed format of the foundation:

          – Shortest permitted side: 50 cm

          – Longest permitted side: 130 cm.

5. Each submitted work must be framed and prepared for the exhibition.

On the back of the work the following must be stated: theme, title of work, technique, selling price (gross in €) and the author’s name, surname, address, e-mail and telephone number. The Ex-tempore stamp must be visible.

6. Submission of works is possible only in Monfort Gallery Portorož during these times:

          – From Saturday 27. 8. to Thursday 1. 9. 2022, between 9.00 and 12.00 and between 17.00 and 20.00,

          – On Friday, 2. 9. 2022, from 9.00 to 14.00.

7. The organizer guarantees that it will treat submitted works according to applicable standards.

8. The organizer does not accept liability for possible damage and the quality of the used materials on the submitted works. The organizer is not responsible for any kind of hidden, factual or legal errors.

9. An international jury will select works for the exhibition and the following awards:

          – GRAND PRIX

          – YOUNG AUTHORS PRIZE

          – OTHER AWARDS AND RECOGNITIONS

10. Prizes are in gross amounts.

11. Prize winners are obliged to relinquish prize winning paintings irrespective of the prize winners’ planned selling price. 

12. All exhibited works will be sold at the price decided by the author, taking into account compulsory levies.

13. Authors may collect works that will not be exhibited at the Monfort Gallery Portorož during these times:

          – On Saturday, 3. 9. 2022, from 13.00 to 23.00,

          – From Sunday, 4. 9. 2022, to Sunday, 9. 10. 2022, between 10.00 and 17.00.

* Uncollected works become the property of the organizer.

14. Authors must collect exhibited works at the Monfort Gallery Portorož from Tuesday, 16. 11., and not later than Sunday, 5. 12. 2022, between 10.00 and 17.00.

15. Participation in the Ex-tempore implies complete acceptance of all aforementioned rules and regulations in the RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR 57^TH INTERNATIONAL PAINTING EX-TEMPORE document.
