Tina Perko, born in 1971 in Ljubljana, graduated in 1997 in clothing and textile design at the University of Ljubljana. She then completed her postgraduate studies in fashion design at the Istituto Marangoni in Milan. After graduating, she was employed as a fashion designer in the Slovenian fashion industry (Mura, Rašica). She has exhibited her illustrations in some solo and group exhibitions in Slovenia, Serbia, Croatia, China, and Austria. She lives and works in Ljubljana.
While working in the fashion industry, drawing was a relaxing moment, a sort of escape into the limitless world of imagination. Over time, she received more and more commissions and her hobby grew into a profession.
For the last 10 years, Tina has been illustrating picture books, short stories, and children's magazines. She has collaborated with many national and international publishers (Didakta, Rokus Klett, Mladika, Studio Hieroglif, Morfem, Učila International, Epistola, Miles Kelly, LittleAntBooks, Ed to the Future). Tina Perko is also the author of four published picture books: Žirafa Cveta (published by Lepa beseda), Ovca Boža (published by Didakta), Gvido in kozja vila (published by Mladika), Srečko and Sofija (published by Mladika).
At the exhibition, Perkova presents a series of illustrations dedicated to the picture book of the lemur from the zoo. The book speaks about curiosity, the desire to discover the unknown, the courage it takes, and the fear that hinders us. Based on individual elements of the illustrations, several smaller “stories" were created, which Tina also presents in the form of prints. Some of these are part of a collection she designed for the brand Ocean Bluu, linking the illustration to textile design.
