Tihana Karlović: Clouds |
Herman Pečarič Gallery, Piran |
29th of August 2020 – 15th of November 2020

At her first solo exhibition at the Piran Coastal Galleries, Tihana Karlović presented a selection of unique graphics and artist books, created in the last years under the title Clouds. The exhibition is a sign of international recognition that was awarded to her after winning the special prize of the 54th edition of Ex-Tempore Piran dedicated to U35 artists with the drawing Yesterday.
As the explanation of the award mentions, “Through her contemplative drawing and the perforation of the surface, she created a subtle image of minimalism that concentrates into a sublime image of perfectionism. The minimalist treatment focuses on an image of her memory, which is strongly associated with elements of the landscape.”
Even after a rapid glance to the exhibited works, the author's familiarity and acquaintance of modern guidelines and digital technologies are noticeable. In her creative process, she is guided and directed by extremely personal feelings, experiences, and reflections on the archetype and on the universality of nature: its continuous change, elusiveness, and indestructibility, which becomes its intimate metaphor and the symbol of the mysteriously subjective and indefinite universality of human psyche. The result is her multifaceted interpretation of the subject – a series of variations of the graphic techniques or a combination of these, which she refines in some instances with meticulous drawings and external interventions. In the creative process, the author stylizes and transforms a motif or a detail, opening new points of view and interpretations to the spectator. This process also allows him to have intimate contemplative states, achieving the greatest possible expressive effect. Simple and pure artistic signs are aligned with the events of primordial human nature and become – sublimated into the author's recognizable poetics ̶ a newly visualized and sensitive psychogram of the artist Tihana Karlović.
