A range of different events has filled the spring programme with the exhibitions attracting and inspiring numerous visitors. Therefore, we decided to prolong some of them, while others will be open during the summer months, in the midst of preparations for the traditional Ex-tempore Piran 2022.

The first exhibition we will be presenting is something new for the Coastal Galleries programme, since it was selected based on the ODPRTA VRATA (OPEN DOORS) tender. The latter was published this spring for the first time, aiming to constructively and democratically offer anyone who wants to collaborate with new artistic production an opportunity to present themselves in the field of the visual arts in the Primorska region (Slovenian Istria). From 22 applications, the CONTINUUM project was chosen for the exhibition in the Herman Pečarič Gallery, which was curated by renowned artist and designer SANDI RENKO with colleagues (ALEŠ BRCE, MARKO JUGOVIC, NICOLETTA ZAR) from Trieste. The CONTINUUM multisensory installation is an inventive and multi-layered project bringing together artists of different profiles and generations with an emphasis on the young. A hanging three-dimensional object customised with paintings, light, and sound, alluringly offers different emotional experiences. Along with the aesthetic pleasure of being faced with a pure, timeless form in contrast with graphic and sound interventions, the installation also carries a socio-critical message and invites the visitor to think about the state of present-day society. The exhibition’s opening will take place on Thursday, 23 June 2022, at 7 pm in the Herman Pečarič Gallery, where it will run until 18 August 2022. More at…

This summer, the Loža Gallery in Koper will once again be the venue for the interinstitutional photo exhibition prepared in cooperation with the Fotografija Gallery in Ljubljana. The curator HANA ČEFERIN conceived the TELO KOT NAČIN GLEDANJA (BODY AS A POINT OF VIEW) group exhibition as a group project of eight contemporary Slovenian photographers of different generations, who approach the motif of the body in distinctly individual ways. The motif of the body can certainly be an entrance point for understanding guidelines in contemporary photography and the outline of experimenting in the medium. In its smaller form, the exhibition was designed in 2021, when the Fotografija Gallery presented some of the works at the Italian festival Fotografia Zeropixel in Trieste. The more extensive and comprehensive presentation in the Loža Gallery includes the works of UROŠ ABRAM, TILYEN MUCIK, JANEZ PUKŠIČ, BLAŽ ROJS, TANJA LAŽETIĆ, ANDREJ LAMUT, VANJA BUĆAN, and BORIS GABERŠČIK. The exhibition will open on Thursday, 30 June 2022, at 7 pm, and will run until 11 September 2022. More at…

A month later, a new exhibition will open at the Meduza Gallery in Koper, where the doors are known to have been thrown open to less-known authors many times before. TILEN SEPIČ is a multidisciplinary artist and designer who works in the field of new media, the art of light, design of lighting objects, and projection of light audiovisual installations. With his light-sound kinetic installations he regularly participates at light festivals and exhibitions at home and abroad. This is his first appearance in the Meduza Gallery with his light-sound installation KOZMIČNI DEŽ (COSMIC RAIN), which intervenes in the gallery space with engineering precision. The installation is composed of five detector-signalling units, stretched across the room and powered by an electrified steel net. In a poetic way, the author shows his visitors the presence of cosmic particles, muons – high-energy elementary particles that are created in the upper layers of the atmosphere and transverse through our bodies at any moment, while they mostly decay in the depths of the earth. The exhibition is organised in co-production with the Ljudmila Arts and Science Laboratory from Ljubljana and in cooperation with the PiNA cultural and educational society from Koper. The project was developed within konS – a platform for contemporary investigative art, while the installation is co-financed by the Creative Europe programme within the EASTN-DC project. The opening will take place on Friday, 22 July 2022, at 7 pm, and the exhibition will be open until 30 September 2022. More at…

Group exhibits PANORAMA. Selection from the art fund of Piran Coastal Galleries in the Piran Town Gallery and NA DRUGI STRANI/ON THE OTHER SIDE by DANIELA DANICA TEPEŠ in the Monfort Gallery in Portorož resonated with the profession and brought an exceptional response from visitors which exceeded our expectations. Hence, we decided to extend them until 21 August 2022. Again, due to the great interest of visitors, ALEKSANDER VELIŠČEK’s exhibition in the Meduza Gallery in Koper will also be prolonged. His original and tempting portraits can be marvelled at until 15 July 2022.

UNESCO’s OB MORJU SEM TER TJA project, in which the Piran Coastal Galleries have been participating together with VRTEC MORNARČEK PIRAN kindergarten for several years, was concluded with the exhibition of art pieces in the Herman Pečarič Gallery. The opening, which was accompanied by a short programme, took place on 31 May and children’s works, created during the school year, will be on display until 15 June 2022.

In July, a round-table discussion will be organised on the topic ART and ENVIRONMENT. The environmental theme is an important motif, a starting point, and an inspiration of contemporary art, which by exposing current environmental problems and challenges brings attention to their significance and raises the level of awareness about them. The round-table discussion will take place alongside the exhibition by DANIELA DANICA TEPEŠ in the Monfort Gallery. The exact date and names of the participants will be published on our website at a later date.

All current exhibitions will be accompanied by an interesting educational programme all through the summer (guided tours, meetings with artists, etc.). Information about all the events will appear in advance on our website www.obalne-galerije.si.

We wish you a fun and culture-packed summer!
