FUGA Festival 2025: An International Meeting Point for Theatre, Visual Arts, and Young Visions
Koper, July 7, 2025 – On Thursday, July 10, the Koper Theatre will host the opening of the 6th FUGA Festival with the performance Figurae Veneris Historiae by students from the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television (AGRFT) in Ljubljana. The festival, which enriches the cultural pulse of the city every year, once again brings a vibrant selection of theatre performances, exhibitions, concerts, and discussions. It continues to strengthen its role as an important regional platform for international collaboration between art academies and the development of emerging artists.
Despite cancellation from Serbia, the Festival remains open and in solidarity
Academies from Slovenia, Slovakia, Poland, and Switzerland will participate in the festival. Unfortunately, the academy from Belgrade will not be attending this year’s edition due to the ongoing social and political crisis in Serbia and a lack of financial resources.
“Despite our best efforts, we were unfortunately unable to ensure their participation. This is a result of extremely difficult conditions that Serbian students have been bravely confronting in the streets for months, while many professors remain unpaid. We cannot remain indifferent to this,” emphasized the festival’s artistic director, Ivan Loboda.
In place of their performance, the out-of-competition program will feature a master’s project by Slovenian actress Gaja Filač.
“We want to preserve the festival as a space of freedom of expression and solidarity – also with those currently fighting for the basic conditions of artistic creation,” added Loboda.
Visual Arts and Interdisciplinarity: A Key Innovation of FUGA 2025
A major addition to this year’s program is the collaboration with Glej Theatre’s Boundary Crossing initiative from Ljubljana, along with the support of the Coastal Galleries Piran. With this, the festival opens up for the first time to visual arts. As part of this collaboration, an exhibition will open on July 14 at the Monfort Gallery in Portorož, created as a response to the performances in the festival program.
The exhibition, led by interdisciplinary artist Marko Čeh, will be co-created under mentorship by young visual artists.
“This is not about illustrating theatre, but about a parallel artistic dialogue – a reflection on the politics of the body, silence as a form of resistance, and the disintegration of identities. All of this takes place in direct dialogue with the performances,” explains Loboda.
The festival also received financial support from the Municipality of Piran and Okolje Piran, with additional venue support provided by the Avditorij Portorož.

Opis / Synopsis
Osrednji motiv tišine postane prostor spomina, travme in odpora. Ko odjekne zadnji strel, nastopi praznina, v kateri se moramo naučiti znova živeti. Predstava postavlja vprašanja o vojni, telesu in tišini, ki jih prelamljajo glasovi žensk, pogosto preslišanih.
Figurae Veneris Historiae is an experimental performance based on Goran Stefanovski’s work and real testimonies of women in wartime. Merging physical theatre, ritual, and poetic expression, the production turns silence into a space for memory and transformation.
Set in a post-conflict void, the piece explores the lingering aftermath of violence and the resilience of bodies forced to endure. Through silence and embodiment, the performance honors unheard voices and examines how theatre can become a site of resistance and renewal.

Opis / Synopsis
Projekt obravnava generacijske travme, samozavest, ustrežljivost, manipulacijo in osebno rast. Predstava občinstvo spodbuja k premisleku o pomenu lastnih meja kot ključnem elementu samospoznavanja.
The authorial project Boundaries explores the theme of personal boundaries in relationships. Based on the performers’ own experiences, the piece reveals the struggles of defining limits and the deep psychological roots of this issue. Using the principle of “self-confession,” the production connects individual narratives into a universal theatrical reflection on human vulnerability and resilience. With directorial strategies grounded in authenticity and unified awareness inspired by Indian mythology, the show examines generational trauma, self-worth, and manipulation. It invites the audience to reflect on the importance of self-recognition and the power of setting healthy boundaries.

Opis / Synopsis
»Predstavljam si prostor v svojem telesu, kjer se kopičijo spomini in mu dam obliko. Materializiram ga. Bivam v tem postapokaliptičnem prostoru in bežim pred svojimi sostanovalci, ki me vedno nekako dohitijo.
“I imagine a space within my body where memories accumulate, and I give it form. I materialize it. This space becomes a vast, decaying mansion with an endless number of doorless rooms. In each room lives someone or something from the past.I dwell in this post-apocalyptic place, constantly running from my cohabitants who always seem to catch up with me. I can’t leave, because being trapped, chained to this space, intoxicated by it—that’s all I know. And it seems that the only way to step out of this vicious cycle in freedom is to stop running."

Opis / Synopsis
V drugem delu sledi priredba istoimenske drame Martina Crimpa. Trije neodvisni prizori razkrivajo mehanizme represije, od družinske dinamike do naključnega nasilja in absurdne izolacije. Poetična struktura omogoča subtilen, skoraj meditativni vstop v svet, v katerem vsakdanje življenje razpada pod težo kolektivne otopelosti.
This two-part production juxtaposes devised personal fragments with Martin Crimp’s razor-sharp writing to form a chilling study of emotional and social breakdown. It challenges audiences to witness the hidden traumas lurking beneath domestic calm, the casual cruelty of disconnected individuals, and the eerie normalization of violence. Fewer Emergencies invites reflection on how much we repress to function and whether such repression can truly protect us. The result is a haunting, resonant piece of theatre that lingers long after the final line is spoken.

Opis / Synopsis
Umetnice in umetniki skozi raznolike prakse razmišljajo o vprašanjih glede krhkosti telesa, politične prisotnosti, identitete, institucionalne travme, tišine kot prostora odpora in mitološke preobrazbe.
The first visual arts exhibition at FUGA Festival 2025 marks a significant expansion of the festival’s vision. It opens a space for artistic research grounded in the Boundary Crossing methodology, exploring the porous borders between theatre, visual art, and embodied experience. Through diverse practices, the participating artists reflect on questions of bodily fragility, political presence, identity, institutional trauma, silence as a space of resistance, and mythological transformation. The exhibition creates a field of tension, where meanings do not conclude but persist — as in the central question: What remains of us after we survive?
The exhibition is not a mere illustration of the festival’s performances but a parallel inquiry. It invites the viewer to remain present in the crack — between the visible and invisible, between structure and collapse, between the individual and the collective. In this in-between space, voices long silenced may finally be heard again.

Opis / Synopsis
A powerful solo performance blending clown, dance, grotesque and poetic theatre, Shooting Snow White reinvents the classic tale through a feminist lens. Anna Lisa Grebe embodies every character with physical intensity and emotional vulnerability, exposing patriarchal norms and repressive structures with sharp humor and surreal horror. The piece confronts how fairy tale tropes shape identity and expectations, asking whether we can still believe in them or must radically rewrite them. Through body, voice, and visual metaphor, the show reclaims the stage for stories of resistance, resilience, and redefinition. An invitation to wake up from the enchanted sleep of passivity.
