You are kindly invited to the 41st international conference Piran Days of Architecture, which will take place on Saturday, 23 November 2024, from 10 am to 6 pm at the Auditorium Portorož. The 2024 Piranesi Awards will be presented at 6 pm, followed by the traditional opening of the Piranesi 2024 exhibition at 8 pm in the Monfort exhibition space (Wooden Hall). The exhibition can be visited until December 30th.

The theme of this year’s PDA is Ethics and Responsibility.

»A constant presence in our lives, crises serve as a reminder that there are limits to our living environment. Changes in space, both as natural processes and as human interventions, carry long-term consequences impacting the quality of people’s lives. The ideology of neoliberalism, founded on individualism and selfishness while promoting competition and greed, is the mark of our time. As much is also reflected in space, seen by many as an opportunity for extraordinary financial gain first and foremost. The architects of Modernism strove for a different, more just world that would ensure decent living conditions for everyone, not just for the privileged elite. As a result, their architecture was a synonym for optimism, solidarity, and universal progress, while contemporary architecture is shaping to be a material expression of the increasing inequality. The drastic loss of respect suffered by the architectural profession in recent decades is therefore understandable. Art and architecture are more important today than they have ever been before. But only when they adopt an ethical stance to challenge the mentality which puts profit before people.« wrote the architect and professor Aleš Vodopivec.

The conference will feature invited speakers, internationally recognized experts and the Piranesi Award 2024 jury: Aleš Vodopivec (Slovenia), András Pálffy  (Austria),  Zsolt Gunther (Hungary), Marta Peris, José Toral  (Spain), Marina Tabassum (Bangladesh) and young speakers Anja Vidic & Jure Grohar (Slovenia).
