On Thursday, June 18, 2026, at 8:30 p.m., the Municipality of Piran will officially open the renovated Lucija–Forma viva municipal road, which provides access to the Forma viva Portorož Sculpture Park.
The Municipality of Piran carried out the road renovation as part of the 2026 budget. The renovated, two-layer asphalt roadway, approximately 650 meters long, runs from the intersection at Kamp Lucija to the entrance of the Forma viva Sculpture Park. As part of the project, new public lighting with 22 LED lights was also installed. On the section from the entrance to Camp Lucija to the entrance to the Forma viva Sculpture Park, a shared-use traffic area was established, where the speed limit is 30 km/h. The total investment amounts to 350,000 euros.
In collaboration with the Piran Coastal Galleries, the Municipality of Piran also oversaw the renovation of the entrance to the sculpture park and the installation of new information signs, which provide visitors with updated information about the Sculpture Park and the olive grove at Forma viva.
The opening will be followed by a musical program featuring an acoustic performance, designed to foster a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere in a unique setting of nature and art.
The accompanying program, organized by the Piran Coastal Galleries, will take place prior to the grand opening and will be dedicated to a significant anniversary: the 100th anniversary of the birth of sculptor Janez Lenassi, the initiator and co-founder of the Forma viva Portorož International Sculpture Symposium, where sculptors have been gathering continuously since 1961.
The adult education program, which will take place from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., includes a guided tour of the Forma viva Sculpture Park and a presentation on the installation of a sculpture by Emma Jääskeläinen, a Finnish artist who participated in the 2023 symposium.
You can register for the guided tour by emailing OGP curator Tina Jazbec at tina.jazbec@obalne-galerije.si.
The guided tour from 7:00 PM to 7:30 PM is free of charge.
The young educational program between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM includes creative workshops for children and teenagers who will try their hand at sculpting with Siporex. The workshops will be led by artist Katja Smerdu. The educational workshop Let’s Sculpt Together! will take place at the Forma Viva sculpture site.
Registration is open until June 17, 2026, via email to OGP curator and educator Ana Papež: anapapez25@gmail.com.
The workshop is free of charge and intended for children and teenagers aged 12 to 16.
The event is organized by the Municipality of Piran and the Piran Coastal Galleries.
Due to limited parking in the immediate vicinity of Forma Viva Park, we kindly ask visitors to walk to the venue. For those arriving by car, we recommend using the gravel parking lot in front of Camp Lucija.
