David Kran\u010dan's solo exhibition The Ninth Care rounds off a series of comic book exhibitions held at the Meduza Gallery in Koper, organized in collaboration with Stripburger – Forum Ljubljana (Marko Kociper: Badger and the Third World, 2018, Andrej \u0160tular: The Third Track, 2019). The author, cartoonist, and illustrator David Kran\u010dan has recently established himself as one of the most incisive comic book creators in Slovenia with his works and illustrations, as evidenced by the extremely positive reviews and awards he received for his work. This is characterized by a masterful re-enactment of various styles, which Kran\u010dan adapts to the content or the audience. His work, whether it is a classic comic book or an illustration, is marked by extremely sophisticated drawings, an exciting dramaturgy, and above all an original and fervent imagination.<\/span><\/p>\n

The main part of the exhibition is focused on drawings from two award-winning comic books released by Stripburger: Grdina (2014) and Pijani zajec (2015). Kran\u010dan also presents a series of short comics dedicated to the comic world as a whole, and a series of drawings, illustrations and graphics. The exhibition is also complemented by comics created by the author in the last years for various educational and promotional purposes.<\/p>\n

David Kran\u010dan<\/strong> (Ljubljana, 1984) graduated in comic studies under the guidance of prof. Milan Eri\u010d at the Academy of Fine Arts of Ljubljana. After a year of study in Prague, he returned to Slovenia in 2009. He is a long-time member of the editorial board of Stripburger magazine. Since 2011, he has been illustrating the covers of Dnevnik's Objektiv. He has exhibited in important Slovenian and European galleries and received several awards for his work. Kran\u010dan is a researcher of the theoretical and practical dimensions of comics as an artistic expression. His narratives, which are often wordless, hide narrative keys in the visual image.<\/p>\n
