He then found employment at the Jadran Printing House in Koper. In 1987, he decided to pursue an independent career as a graphic designer. He began collaborating with PCG at the beginning of the 1980s. He has held several solo exhibitions (26) and selected exhibitions in Slovenia and abroad. As an independent graphic designer, he has designed numerous posters, logos and corporate visual identities, created a series of artistic calendars, and collaborated on various promotional campaigns and visual arts events. He has always cultivated a parallel love of painting, and has therefore also held several personal painting exhibitions. He has received numerous awards and recognitions, and his posters are held in many museum collections in Slovenia and abroad.

Darja Vuga studied graphic design under Prof. Peter Skalar and Jani Bavčer in the first generation of the newly established Department of Design at the Academy of Fine Arts, University of Ljubljana, where she graduated in 1991. Since 1992, she has held the status of a self-employed cultural worker. Since her student years, she has worked mainly for clients in the fields of culture and art, while for a few years she also worked for advertising agencies. In 2000, after 18 years in Ljubljana, she returned to her hometown of Koper, where, through a public anonymous competition for a corporate visual identity, she was commissioned to work for the Koper Theatre and for PCG, and later also for several other public institutions and cultural associations. She has received several awards and recognitions, participated in various competitions, and held several occasional project-based exhibitions.

Duška Đukić graduated in 2016 from the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Ljubljana with a thesis in the field of spatial development of Forma viva in Seča. She has been connected with PCG since her secondary-school years, initially collaborating in the implementation of the institute’s long-standing projects (Forma viva, Ex-tempore Piran, PIDA…). Since 2009, as a graphic designer (and since 2017 also partly employed by the galleries in this role), she has continuously designed exhibition printed materials and publications and co-created the overall visual identity of various programmes and projects. In her work, she combines design practice with an understanding of the content-related and production processes of a cultural institution. She pays particular attention to the systematic development of visual solutions, the digitalisation of design processes, and the improvement of clarity and efficiency in communication materials.

COLLATERAL PROGRAMME:

The activity of the most important exhibition institution on the southern coast, which today fully embodies its role as a regional museum of fine arts, has been and continues to be rich above all thanks to the individuals who shaped it over five decades. On the occasion of the exhibition, we therefore wish to invite to the gallery speakers who, in various ways, contributed to the development of the Piran Coastal Galleries, or who, as part of the professional public and other interested audiences, followed this evolution. Above all, we aim to encourage reflection on the meaning of contemporary art yesterday and today.

Open and dynamic conversations will form the living core of the exhibition: our intent is to revive memories and share anecdotes related to the local context and beyond. Most importantly, we want to give space to contemporary art, which for half a century at the Piran Coastal Galleries has held up an uncompromising mirror to society, raising awareness and alerting us to the changes in contemporary life, art and the world.

The conversations will be recorded with the aim of creating a moving archive of memories intended for both the local community and broader audiences for study and research purposes. The programme will also include specialist guided tours of the exhibition and educational workshops for children.

DISCOVER MORE ON THE EXHIBITION HERE →

PCG: 50 YEARS OF CONTEMPORARY ART – CONVERSATION WITH GUESTS: Vojko Tominc, Darja Vuga and Duška Đukić | Piran Coastal Galleries – 50 years of contemporary art – Documentary exhibition. Conversation: Thursday, 23 April 2026, at 11.00, Piran City Gallery.

[98,47

post-28020","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-events","category-news
["GET
