Group Exhibition Monsters Are Human<\/em> at Lo\u017ea Gallery in Koper<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The new temporary exhibition at the Lo\u017ea gallery in Koper will be a group presentation of Slovenian artists entitled Monsters Are Human<\/em>, curated by guest curator Nina Jeza in collaboration with curator and educator Ana Pape\u017e. In its third iteration \u2013 the first was held in 2022 at the City Gallery in Nova Gorica, the second at the Miheli\u010d Gallery in Ptuj the following year \u2013 the exhibition continues its exploration of the monstrous as a social and psychological construct.<\/p>\n

Rather than presenting monsters as exceptions, anomalies, or mythological figures, the exhibition focuses on the human being \u2013 on their fears, projections, violence, and inability to accept difference. Monstrosity does not appear as something external or extraordinary, but as a consequence of social mechanisms, ideologies, and collective obsessions that, in contemporary times, are easily normalized and become part of everyday order.<\/p>\n

This installation expands the temporal and thematic framework by connecting contemporary artistic practices with works by artists of the previous generation, whose oeuvres are marked by existential questions, motifs of death, decay, anxiety, and human vulnerability. The dialogue between different generations further deepens the understanding of the monstrous as a universal and enduring element of human experience.<\/p>\n

The exhibition will open at Lo\u017ea Gallery on Friday, March 13, 2026, at 7 p.m.<\/strong>, and will feature works by:
Mirsad Begi\u0107, Goran Bertok, Andrej Brumen \u010cop, Matej \u010cepin, Tina Dobrajc, Mito Gegi\u010d, Milan Golob, Natalija \u0160eruga Golob, Zdenko Huzjan, Marko Jak\u0161e, Janez Kardelj, Mateja Kav\u010di\u010d, Ira Maru\u0161i\u010d, Matja\u0161 Diego Zadel Dellamorte<\/b>, Betina Habjani\u010d, Karin Vrbek, Jo\u017ee Tisnikar, France Miheli\u010d, and Zoran Mu\u0161i\u010d<\/strong>.

Solo Exhibition Luka \u0160irok \u2013 Nothing Personal<\/em> at Meduza Gallery in Koper<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Painter Luka \u0160irok, from the northern Primorska region, presents himself for the first time within the Piran Coastal Galleries with two series of paintings from 2023 (V redu sem \/ “I\u2019m Fine Paintings I\"<\/em>) and 2024 (Ti? Jaz!<\/em> \/ “You? Me!\"<\/em>), united under the common title Ni\u010d osebnega<\/em> (“Nothing Personal\")<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The small-format paintings depict random fragments of life through the lens of a distant, impersonal observer who perceives small human figures in unrecognizable spaces, in more or less unusual situations. The works are connected by irony, which blurs the boundaries between empathy and indifference, reminding us that what appears neutral can become personal. Nothing Personal<\/em> is therefore not merely a statement, but a state of mind \u2013 both individual and societal.<\/p>\n

The exhibition is curated by Dr. Tina Jazbec. The opening will also take place on Friday, March 13, 2026, at 6 p.m., one hour before the opening at Lo\u017ea Gallery. The exhibition will be on view until May 2, 2026.<\/p>\n

Exhibition Piran Coastal Galleries \u2013 50 Years of Contemporary Art<\/em> at the Piran City Gallery<\/strong><\/span>
Accompanying Program<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The Piran Coastal Galleries are marking the 50th anniversary of their activity with an exhibition of documentary material that takes visitors through half a century of work in the field of contemporary art at the local, national, and international levels. The exhibition includes promotional, documentary, book, and other archival materials: posters, exhibition catalogues, leaflets, invitations, and other printed matter.<\/p>\n

In the coming months, a series of dynamic talks with guests will continue alongside the exhibition. These guests have contributed in various ways to the development of the Coastal Galleries Piran or have followed its evolution as members of the professional and interested public. The talks will be recorded to establish an archive of living memories, intended for the local community and the wider public for study and research purposes.<\/p>\n

The next talk will take place on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at 5 p.m. at the Piran City Gallery<\/strong>. Guests will include long-time journalist of the Italian program RTV Koper\u2013Capodistria, Laura Vianello<\/strong>, and art critic and long-time head of the Insula Gallery in Izola, Dejan Mehmedovi\u010d<\/strong>. They will be in conversation with Mara Ambro\u017ei\u010d Verderber<\/strong>, Director of the Piran Coastal Galleries, and curator Tina Jazbec<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Details from the photographic works of Primo\u017e Bizjak <\/strong><\/span>The Grey World Is Blue and Green<\/em> at the Port Gallery in Koper<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The Piran Coastal Galleries and Gledali\u0161\u010de Koper, in collaboration and with the support of Luka Koper, will open an exhibition on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at 12 p.m.<\/strong>, at the Port Gallery in Koper, on Koper\u2019s city walls opposite the passenger terminal.<\/p>\n

The exhibition presents eight enlarged photographic details selected from the oeuvre of Primo\u017e Bizjak under the title The Grey World Is Blue and Green<\/em>. The broader public will gain insight into selected details from the remarkable photographs of one of Slovenia\u2019s most recognizable mid-generation artists, who last year had his first major retrospective exhibition in Slovenia at the Piran City Gallery.<\/p>\n

Recognition from the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia on the 50th Anniversary of the Piran Coastal Galleries<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The 50th anniversary of the continuous activity of the Piran Coastal Galleries is crowned by an official recognition awarded by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia<\/strong>. The ceremonial event will take place on Wednesday, March 4, 2026<\/strong>, when Minister of Culture Dr. Asta Vre\u010dko<\/strong> is expected to visit.<\/p>\n

In the morning, together with her ministerial delegation, she will visit the documentary exhibition Piran<\/em> Coastal Galleries \u2013 50 Years of Contemporary Art<\/em> at the Piran City Gallery and, in the presence of the OGP team and representatives of the Municipality of Piran, formally present the prestigious award.<\/p>\n

Memorial Ceremony
In Memory of Andrej Medved<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Andrej Medved<\/strong> (1947\u20132026) was a versatile creator: art critic and theorist, philosopher, publicist, and poet. As artistic director, he successfully guided, shaped, and led the exhibition program of the Coastal Galleries Piran from 1977 until his retirement, during which time the institution became one of Slovenia\u2019s leading gallery establishments.<\/p>\n

Through his original, distinctive, dedicated, interdisciplinary, philosophically grounded, and critically professional work, he made an exceptional contribution to Slovenian and international gallery and museum practice. At home and abroad, he created new opportunities for young Slovenian and international artists, opening doors for them to the contemporary public sphere. He was a person whose publicly expressed professional and personal positions carried significant weight.<\/p>\n

The memorial ceremony in honor of Andrej Medved will take place on Friday, March 6, 2026, at 5 p.m. at the City Gallery Piran.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
