Unheard Voices of Koper<\/em><\/strong>,\u00a0Mala Lo\u017ea Gallery on Tito Square and Kiosk K-67 on Ukmar Square, Koper from 21st November to 12th December, 2021
The project opens up the public space of the city of Koper to the unheard voices of its inhabitants, who with their opinions on key issues about its urban development actively participate in the creation of city-building content. Participants of the international summer school \u201cInformal City: Temporary-Autonomous Utopias\u201d explored the needs of the community. With a sound installation, they are offered a space to speak publicly about their views. In the exhibition, voices reveal their attitude towards the city. It is a repeat of the performance that took place on 9th<\/sup> September, 2021 on Tito Square in Koper, as the conclusion of the summer school. Additional comments will be available on 4th December, 2021 at the K-67 kiosk on Ukmar Square and next to the Urbana Kavarna \/ Urban Caf\u00e9 in Koper.<\/p>\n

38th international architectural conference Piran Days of Architecture<\/em><\/p>\n

Honorary patron of <\/strong>Piran Days of Architecture is Borut Pahor, the President of the Republic of Slovenia.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The purpose of the conference, which has been held in Piran since 1983, is to evaluate current architectural guidelines and present the most innovative architectural projects. Piran Days of Architecture promote quality modern architecture. They represent architects who are dedicated to preserving identity and cultural diversity by being able to understand and respect the geographical and cultural context.<\/p>\n

As part of the Piran Days of Architecture, an international architectural award- the Piranesi Award- is also presented. It is intended for the best architectural projects created in Central Europe in the last two years.<\/p>\n

At this year\u00b4s conference the central discussion question for the participants will be:<\/strong> \u00bbWhat is measurable in architecture?\u00ab<\/strong><\/p>\n

Measurability has always been inextricably linked to architecture. As a set of dimensions, modules,\u00a0grids,\u00a0and\u00a0design principles\u00a0which, in a narrower sense, define architectural planning. Or in a broader sense, as the increasingly extensive and complex world of requirements, rules, standards, parameters, planning methods, and tools, on which all engineering considerations that co-create architecture are based. The diverse construction\u00a0methods\u00a0and, in part, the use of architecture also include\u00a0various\u00a0aspects of measurability. The fundamental requirements for “commodity\" and “firmness\", utilitas\u201d and \u201cfirmitas\u201d of architecture seem to fit perfectly with the mechanistic view of the world that seeks to measure, understand, prove,\u00a0predict, anticipate,\u00a0plan, and manage everything.<\/p>\n

Moreover,\u00a0even\u00a0“delight\" or \u201cvenustas\u201d, is often interpreted in architecture\u00a0merely\u00a0as a reflection of the relationships and ratios between elements. Is therefore measurability essential for good architecture?<\/strong><\/p>\n

In architecture, the essential is often achievable only indirectly.\u00a0Void (of) space\u00a0\u2013 both internal and external \u2013 is created by forming a\u00a0solid\u00a0material shell. And many aspects\u00a0of our living\u00a0and attitudes\u00a0towards architecture are immeasurable and often unpredictable. How do we measure the path to architecture that evokes emotions,\u00a0binds\u00a0us in a community, and builds our identity? How do we measure whether architecture is sincere and fair? Is architecture created by our ancestors still to our\u00a0standards? Is architecture that meets all measures and criteria already considered to be of high quality? Where are the limits and the purpose of measurability in architecture?
